The primary purpose of the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) is to establish investment strategies and manage our flagship equity model portfolios (local and international). Furthermore, the CIO will be tasked with assisting and complementing our client’s Portfolio Management team with the view to making recommendations as to acquire, dispose or hold investments based on empirical research.
Key Outputs:
Investment Strategy:
- Provides input and management oversight of investment strategy formulation to ensure the business is supported by the appropriate investment capabilities.
- Manage and accept accountability for our client’s flagship model portfolios (local and offshore).
- Serve as the custodian of the business’ investment philosophy.
- Ensure investment capabilities and initiatives are appropriately prioritised and aligned to our investment philosophy.
- Works and provides technical assistance on investment policy.
- Ensures that investment mandates are established, implemented, and adhered to.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness and performance of investment strategies, products and solutions and identify areas of opportunity that will enhance the client experience and returns.
Regulatory compliance and risk management:
- Develops strategies for identifying, measuring and mitigating risks relating to the overall investment management process.
- Ensures compliance of company policies, regulations, and rules.
- Chair the client’s Investment Committee.
Investment Research:
- Oversee the investment research agenda and identify areas of outperformance, whether sectors or stocks, so that we outperform benchmarks.
- Supervise and mentor Equity Analysts complementary to the business’ investment process.
Effectively lead team:
- Lead and provide the strategic direction to the investment management and equity research teams within our client.
- Where the client allows, identify opportunities to leverage off strategic relationships and alliances to build new investment or growth opportunities.
- Provide management in the investment areas, where required, with an investment view based on investment performance.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to direct reports.
- Be involved in setting investment goals for performance and growth.
- Manage performance of direct reports and hold them accountable.
- Identify relevant development needs within the team.
- Ensure transformational targets are met.
Qualifications:
- Postgraduate degree in Investments Management, Finance, Actuarial Science, Quantitative or Risk Management.
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Experience:
- 10-15 years investment management experience.
- 5 years senior leadership experience.
- Exposure to portfolio management across a variety of products, markets and industries and a substantial track record of investment performance.
- Exposure to both local and global equity portfolio management and equity research.
- Stakeholder management and influencing skills.
